Major Tech Platforms Issue Joint Statements on Misinformation About Coronavirus

The majority of tech platforms like Google, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Microsoft, and others have issued a joint statement to reassure customers and flag the potential for misinformation about coronavirus on their platform. US government officials asked US tech companies to help stop the spreading of coronavirus conspiracy theories online. “We invite other companies to join us as we work to keep our communities healthy and safe,” the statement read.

The joint statement does not go into detail on how the companies will be handling COVID-19 fraud and misinformation. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director-general for World Health Organization’s said last month that disinformation is as dangerous as COVID-19.
